New Construction & Expansion

Asphalt roads and parking lots can be installed on a variety of terrain.  Depending on the size and complexity of the project, engineered drawings and local permits may be required.  Once the soil or existing surface material is excavated to the proper depth and grade (slope), it must be properly compacted.  If any adjoining concrete work is required, it should be done prior to final compaction of the area.

Next, 1-inch minus crushed limestone rock is installed and compacted in lifts, or layers.  Heavy weight rollers are used to properly compact the rock.  The next step is asphalt installation.  The thickness of installed asphalt can range from 2 to 8 inches or more, depending on the intended traffic use of the road or lot.  However, we recommend that no more than 3 inches be installed per lift (layer) to allow for proper compaction throughout the installation process.

If asphalt curbs are required, they are typically installed following the installation of the asphalt surface.  Finally, the new surface is striped, wheel stops are installed, and signage is placed per customer requirements.
