ADA Compliance

New construction and alterations of parking lots and building accessible routes must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and more importantly the revised 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.  These standards include various items that pertain to parking lots and accessible routes, as defined in the design standards at www.ada.gov.  Some of the topics include:

  • Removal of barriers to access
  • Location and minimum number of accessible and van accessible parking spaces
  • Accessible route dimensions (minimum width) and maximum slope
  • Parking space and aisle dimensions, striping, and maximum slope
  • Identification signage

Please Note:  The above referenced federal guidelines are minimum requirements; however, additional local and state requirements may also apply.
